| DESCRIPTION |
|
A climbing annual, much branched; stem angled and grooved with hairy and vilous young parts. Tendril simple, elongate and slnder. Leaves simple, deeply divided into 5-7 lobes.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Leaf : Leaves are thin, reinform or suborbicular in outline, 4-12 cm broad, deeply pedately 5-7 lobed, glabrate, lobes dentate, acute or obtuse, petioles slender, 3-6 cm long, taste slightly bitter. Transverse section of leaf shows dorsiventral structure, a single layered upper epidermis with multicellular, uniseriate, large hairs. Glandular hairs with uniseriate stalks and spherical or disc shaped heads are present on leaf lamina and petiole, more abundant on midrib and veins. Explosive hairs with uniseriate 5 or 6 celled stalks are abundant. Palisade is single layered and spongy parenchyma composed of 3-5 layers of irregular chlorophyll containing cells.
