| DESCRIPTION |
|
A deciduous, thorny, rigid shub or tree, upto 9 m high. Leaves obovate, ovate or spathulate, obtuse at the apex, tapering into the petiole at the base. Flowers white, turning yellow when fading, solitary or 2-3 together.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
The fruit is a berry developed from an inferior ovary and is about 2 to 3 cm long and 2.5 cm broad. The fresh fruit is pale green in colour and obscurely longitudinally ribbed. The surface is smooth and the skin is leathery. Dried fruits are tough but brittle and on breaking, two masses of closely adherent seeds are seen in two loculii. Seeds are albuminous. They are flattened, ovoid to oblonbg, light brown in colour. When cut longitudinally, they show a small slender embryo towards pointed end so that in transverse section embryo is visible only when the cut is made towards pointed end.
