| DESCRIPTION |
|
A small deciduous tree upto 8 m high with drooping branches. Leaves simple, 3-11 * 1-4 cm, oblong-lanceolate, entire, with wavy margin, petiolate. Flowers bisexual, showy, orange-yellow in few-flowered corymbose racemes terminating in short lateral branches.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Stem Bark : The bark occurs in flat or slightly curved pieces, about 6-8 mm in thickness. The outer surface of bark is greyish-brown with occassional small dark patches. Longitudinal zigzag furrows and irregular transverse cracks are present on outer surface making it rough. A few vertically elongated lenticels are also present. The inner surface of bark is smooth and buff to brownish in colour. Microscopically young stem shows a single layered thick walled epidermis, some of its cells forming non-glandular and glandular hairs, glandular hairs 3-4 celled stalk nd 12-16 celled head, and multiseriate and branched non-glandular hairs.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is globally distributed in Arabia, Pakistan, and India. Within India, it is in the North-West and western India upto the river Yamuna to an altitude of 1200 in the outer Himalayas.

| CULTIVATION |
|
It is a hardy tree grows in well drained loamy to sandy loam soil and also thrives in stabilized sand dunes and even in rocky areas. Natural regenration occurs by wind-dispersed self seedings. It is propagated from seeds or cuttings.
