| DESCRIPTION |
|
A medium sized tree 10-12 m high, bark smooth, ash coloured; branches horizontal. Leaves imparipinnate, 30-45 cm long, common petiole slender, leaflets 3-5 pairs, oblong or ellipti-oblong, acumiinate.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Stem Bark : Bark curved, thin; external surface smooth, grey, having section of mature bark shows as a wide zone of 15-25 rows, a few outer cells exfoliated; secondary cortex consisting of tabgentially elongated, parenchymatous cells, which are thick-walled towards periphery. It is followed by a zone of compactly arranged cells filled with rosette and prismatic crystals of calcium oxalate, simple, round to oval starch grains and a few prismatic crystals.
Stem : Stem is cylindrical, more or less rough due to longitudinal wrinkle; occasionally a few round, prominent leaf scars also present, reddish-gry externally having lenticels, white or cream coloured, internally with prominent dark brown center, light in weight; fracture very hard; odour and taste not charactristic

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is globally distriubted in the Paleotropics. Within India, it is found almost throughout in moist deciduous and semi-evergreen forests.

| CULTIVATION |
|
The plant is light demander, but it is sensitive to frost. It is propagated either through seeds or from cuttings.
