| DESCRIPTION |
|
A large, deciduous tree, upto 24 m high. Leaces pinnately compound upto 90 cm long; leaflets many, ovate or falcate lanceolate, often lobed. Flowers yellowish, in large lax often much branded panicles. Fruits 5 cm lon, one-seeded samara.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Bark : Bark is approximately 1 cm thick, whitish superficially, rough with irregular fissures. Inner surface is yellowish, white and fibrous in nature. Lenticels are vertically elongated with pointed tips, ccentrally blistered and whitish brown in colour. Taste is bitter. In transverse section phellogen consists of thin walled, tangentially elongated cells.
Leaf : Leaves are pinnate, greyish green, soft and velvetty in texture, margins irregularly toothed, pinnae unequal at base and petiolule not grooved. In transverse section the leaf is subcentric type with a single row of palisade cells. Cuticle is striated, epidermal cell walls are striaght with a tendency for beading.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is globally distributed in the Indian Subcontinent. Within India, it is indigenous to Central and Penisnular India and found throughout Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and parts of Orissa. It is extensively cultivated in many parts of India.

| CULTIVATION |
|
It grows on almost all types of soils except heavy caly with poor drainage. It thrives best on porous sandy loams. It can grow on shallow, dry and gravelly soils but grown on such sites is poor. Natural regenartion take splace largely through seeds.
