| DESCRIPTION |
|
Erect, slender, roughly pubescent herbs, 30-60 cm high. Leaves opposite, very variable, sessile, narrowly lanceolate, toothed or nearly entire. Heads radiate, 6-8 mm in diam., terminal on erect stalks.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Stem is cylindrical or flat with longitudinal ridges, dark green or deep brown in colour. Leaves are sessile to subsessile usually oblong, lanceolate, entire or dentate. Leaves are sessile to subsessile usually oblong, lanceolate, entire or dentate. Receptacle is flat, covered with broad, folded scales, enclosing several flowers. Achemes are narrowly oblong, ribbed or elliptical and flattened, pale brown to brown. Taste is slightly salty.
