| DESCRIPTION |
|
A tree, upto 33.0 m high. Leaves elliptic - obtuse, entire, rounded at both ends. Flowers minute, greenish yellow, in globose heads on short axillary peduncles. Fruits yellowish - brown, small, shining, beaked, winged, one seeded.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Stem Bark : The dried bark is smooth, greyish-green externally. Fracture is secondary short. Microscopically it consists of narrow cork and considerably wide secondary phloem, which is composed of patches of ceratenchyma, phloem parenchyma, thick walled sieve tubes, companion cells and small islands of sclerides and fibres including chambered fibres filled with small clusters of calcium oxalate.
Leaf : Leaf presents a dorsiventral structure. Walls of epidermal cells in surface vioew are wavy. Stomata present only on lower surface re ranunculaceous type. Some of the spongy parenchyma cells and idioblast cells possess rosettes of calcium oxalate crystals.

This speices is globally distributed in Pakistan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Within India, it has been recorded in the forests of sub-Himalayan tract and Siwalik hills and throughout the hills ascending to 1200 metres

| CULTIVATION |
|
The tree grows on a variety of geological formation including sandstone, limestone, metamorphic rocks, trap and laterite. It however, grows best on alluvial soils. It requires an annual rainfall betweeen 625 to 2250 mm
