| DESCRIPTION |
|
A prostate, annual herb; stems many, spreading on the ground. Leaves opposite, obliquely oblong, small, unequal sided at base, entire or crenulate, glabrous and green or reddish above, glaucous and pubescent beneath.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Stem : Stem is herbaceous, slender, cylindrical, pale green but often pink in colour when fresh, becoming grayish or dark purplish on drying. In T.S. of young stem shows a single layered epidermis composed of thick walled cubical cells covered by a thick cuticle and covering trichomes measuring 100 to 400 microns in length, moderately thickened, uniseriate, two to five cells long, having tapering body with pointed to blunt ends and warty surface. Cortex consists of six to eight layers of circular to oval parenchymatous cells having distinct intercellular spaces.
Leaf : Leaves are simple, petiolate, 3-6 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, mostly green, but often coppery red when fresh, becoming grayish green or dark purplish on drying. The lamina is oval-oblong or obliquely oblong. Apex is obtuse or rounded; base is obtuse and very oblique. Margin is dentate towards apex and smooth towards base and venation is reticulate.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is globally distributed in Pantropics. Within India, it occurs throughout the plains and low hills, ascending to 2600 metres in the hills. This is common in waste places, hedges and road sides.
