| DESCRIPTION |
|
A large , deciduous tree. Leaves alternate or subopposite, often clustered at the ends of branchlets, elliptic to ovate, 7.5 to 15 cm long and 4 to 7.5 cm broad, entire and undulate, shortly acuminte.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Flowers : Market samples generally consist of corolla and androecium. Corolla is fleshy, reddish-brown, tabular, lobes 7-14, ovate lanceolate, epipetalous and arranged in two series; anthers sub-sessile, epipetalous, basifixed, laneolate, pointed at tip and hairy at the back with prominent dark brown connective tissue in the centre of the chambers; epidermis single layered covered with thin cuticle; a few unicellular hairs present on one side; endothecium composed of radially elongated, oval-shaped, lignified cells; tapetum not distinct

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is globally distributed in India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. . Within India, it is found almost throughout up to an altitude of 1200 metres in mixed, more in dry, deciduous forests on rocky and sandy soils. It is planted in the plains of northern and peninsular India.

| CULTIVATION |
|
It thrives in all the types of soils with considerable depth of loam and grows even in comparatively dry localities. The trees are mostly draught and frost resistant but may get affected under severe conditions
