| DESCRIPTION |
|
A large, deciduous tree. Leaves bipinnate, leaflets 8 - 18, subsessile, obliquely elliptic - oblong or obovate-oblong. Flowers greenish yellow in globose heads. Pods strap shaped, 10 - 30 cm long, yelloish brown.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Stem Bark : The mature bark shows a well developed, brown to blackish brown rhytidoma, which often peels of during collection and transports in flakes exposing a buff coloured external surface, small patches of inner cork adhering to it. A number of impression of lenticels are present on the outer surface of the bark where tha cork has not peeled off. The internal surface is smooth yellowish to greyish brown in colour, finally striated longitudinally. The fracture is laminated in the oute part and fibrous in the inner part of the bark. In transverse section the phloem in some of its outer portion is composed of two types of cells, the closing cells and complimentary cells, arranged in alternate bands.
