| DESCRIPTION |
|
A variable, branching, undershrub or shrub, upto 1.8 m in height; leaves paripinnate, pubescent, leaflets 3-9 pairs, pale green to bluish-green, narrow, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 1.5-5.0 cm * 0.4-2.0 cm; flowers brilliant yellow, in erect, terminal racemes; pods light green when young to dark brown or blackish on maturity, flat, thin, oblong, pubescent, 3.5-7.0 cm * 0.2-2.5 cm; seeds 5-8, smooth, brown, obovate-oblong.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Leaflets 2.5-6 cm * 0.7-1.5 cm, pale yellowish-green, elongated, lanceolate, slightly asymmetric at base; margin entire, both surfaces smooth with sparce trichomes; odour faint but distinctive; taste mucilaginous and disagreeablebut not distinctly bitter. Transverse section of leaflet through midrib shows an isobilateral structure; epidermal cells straight walled, containing mucilage; both surfaces bear scattered, unicellular hair, often conical, curved near base, thick-walled, non-lignified, wartty cuticle; stomata paracytic, numerous on both surfaces; mesophyll consists of upper and lower palisade layers with spongy layer in between;
