| DESCRIPTION |
|
handsome tall dioecious tree, 10-30 m high and 1-2 m girth with a fine crown of 25-30 leaves. Trunk cylindric, straight unbranched , blackish grey having annual scars of old fallen leafstalks.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Drug available in transversely cute pieces of male inflorescence, 2.5-3 cm in diameter. Transversely cut surface shows a central axis with a number of male flowers arranged around it, external surface yellowish-=grey and rough due to scales. Flower 3-4 mm long, unisexual, actinomorphic, sessile, arranged in a close spiral on the inflorescence axis, reddish brown in colour; perianth consists of 6 sepals, tough, persistent, free, valvate; stamen 6, in two whorls of three each, 1-1.5 mm long, yellowish in colour

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
Probably native to India, distributed hroughout tropical India, especially along the peninsular coast, West Bengal and Bihar.

|
It is generally propagated by direct sowing of fruits at the distance of 4*4 m. seeds germinate and only one seedling emerges within one month.
