| DESCRIPTION |
|
Small, erect an compact shrubs, 1-2 m high. Leaves sub-sessile, broadly ovate, ovate-oblong, elliptic or obovate, cottony pubescent when young. Flowers white, purple-spotted or pink, in umbellate cymes. Seeds with a silky white coma.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Root : It is rough, fissured longitudinally, corky and soft; externally yellowish-grey while internally white, central core cream coloured; bark easily separated from xylem; odour, chracteristic; taste bitter and acrid. Transverse section of root shows outer most cork tissue consisting of 4-8 rows of tangentially elongated and radially arranged cells followed by 3-6 rows of moderately thick walled, irregular cells of secondary cortex devoid of calcium oxalate crystals and starch grains.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is probably native to India, globally distributed in Tropical Africa and Asia. Within India, it is found growing wild throughout in comparatively drier and warmer areas, up to an altitude of 1050 metres It occurs in open habitats such as cultivated fields, roadsides, grazing lands and other disturbed or degraded sites.

| CULTIVATION |
|
It is a hardy shrub growing on different types of soils, and in different climatic, occurs as weed in cultivated field. It does not require specific cultivation practices or irrigation. It has been observed to grow mainly on coarse, sandy and lakaline soils.
