| DESCRIPTION |
|
A perennial creeping herb, stem slender, wiry, rooting at the nodes forming matted tufts. Laves 2-10 cm * 1.25-3 mm, narrowly linear or lanceolate, acute, glaucuous-green, soft.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Root : Root is fibrous, cylindrical, upto 4 mm thick, minute hair like branches arise from the main roots; cream coloured. In microscopy mature root shows epiblema or piliferous layer composed of single layered, thin-walled, radially elongated to cubical cells. Hypodermis is composed of 1-2 layered, thin walled, tangentially elongated to irregular shaped cells. Cortex is differentiated into two zones, one or two layers of smaller, thin-walled, elongated parenchymatous large cells. Endodermis is quite distinct being single layered, thick walled, tangentially elongated cells.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is globally distributed in the tropical and warm temperate regions of the world. Within India, it grows throughout, ascending up to an altitude of 2500 metres It is particularly abundant on road sides and paths, and readily takes possession of any uncultivated area.

| CULTIVATION |
|
It grows on all types of soils including alkaline soil, but prefers heavier types. The plant growth varies greatly in habit according to soil and climate. It is easily propagated by cuttings and rootings, however, propagation by seeds is also possible.
