| DESCRIPTION |
|
Large scandant or scarmbling shrubs; branches armed with recurved pickles. Leaves bipinnate, pinnate 6-11 pairs, leaflets stalked. Flowers yellow, fragrant, in axillary and terminal racemes. Pods oblong, densely armed with sharp wiry prickles.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Root : Root bark is differentiated into cork and secondary phloem consisting of cork, parenchyma and sclerenchyma cells, thick and thin walled parenchyma cells, thick walled pitted sclereids and sclerenchyma cells, round and oval starch grains in the thin walled parenchym acells and few spheroidal clustered crystals and large number of solitary polygonal crystals of calcium oxalate in the parenchyma cells of the gorund tissue.
Seed : seed is characterised by long, narrow, thick walled, non-lignified macrosclereids forming single layered palisade of the seed coat, ground tissue consisting o large thick walled, lacunate and branched parenchyma cells with resinous content.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
This species is globally distributed in the Pantropics. Within India, it is found throughout on the banks of rivers in tidal forests, near the eastern and western sea coast and in the Sunderbans in West Bengal, Bhopal and Himachal Pradesh
|

| CULTIVATION |
|
The plant is wild and propagated by seeds. Dormancy of seeds can be overcome by acid scarification, light and temprature treatment, or treatment with conc. Sulphuric acid for 30 to 90 minutes.
