DESCRIPTION
A lrage, evergreen tree, 12 - 18 m high. Leaves imparipinnate, alternate, 20 - 38 cm long, leaflets 8 - 19, ovate-lanceolate, oblique or sub falcate, falcate-lanceolate, bluntly serrate. Flowers white or pale yellow, small, many , in long, slender, very lax, axiallry panicles.
   
PHARMACOGNOSY
Bark : is channelled, tough, fibrous, brownish grey with a rough scaly surface. Internally bark is yellowish, lmainated and coarsely fibrous. The smooth transverse surface is found to be minutely chequered, pale; narrow medullary rays and tangential bands of parenchyma alternate with dark groups of bast fibres. The bast fibres appear to be surrounded by lignified parenchyma cells.

Fruit : Fruit, when fresh is found to be greenish yellow in colour and after drying becomes darker. It shows a scanty pulp and bony endocarp. Seeds are dirty brown, 1cm in length, 4-5 mm in width, hilum not well marked, taste bitter.Odour characteristic, raphe present. The powder of seed is dirty brwon in colour, bitter in taste, with gritty touch and oily.
   
DISTRIBUTION
This species is probably native to India globally distributed in the Indian subcontinent. Within India, it is commonly found throughout the greater part, and is often cultivated.
   
CULTIVATION
It is a hardy tree, grows well in saline soils and drought conditions. Growth is slow in water logged conditions. Propagated from seeds, which should be sown immediately after ripening, as their viability is very short.
