| DESCRIPTION |
|
A small or medium sized tree, about 10 m high. Leaves usually 3-pinate, leaflets 1.2 - 1.8 cm long, the lateral eliptic, the terminal obovate and slightly longer than the lateral ones. Flowers white, fragrant, in large panicles.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
The stem bark shows extensive cork tissue demarcated into two zones. The outer zone is tanniferous and the inner zone with rather scanty contents. The phelloderm is interspersed with several patches of stone cells and adjoining prismatic crystalliferous idioblasts. Sphaerocrystalliferous idioblasts also occur requently in the cortex. Besides, the parenchyma possess idioblasts containing gums and tannins. The secondary phloem is marked by the presence of 3 - 6 called medullary rays. Stone cells also occur in the phloem. Bast fibres are abundant and occur in the lower regions of the phloem.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
Globally this species is found in India and Pakistan. It is indigenous to the sub-Himalayan tracts of North West India. This species is cultivated throughout India and in many other tropical countries.

| CULTIVATION |
|
It grows in all types of soils, except stiff clays amd thrives best under the tropical insular climate of south india. The tree can be propagated by sesds or from cuttings.
