| DESCRIPTION |
|
A medium sized tree. Leaves digitately trifoliate, long petioled, leaflets ovate, lanceolate, glabrous, shining above, pale beneath. Flowers white and pale yellow, on filiform pedicles.

| PHARMACOGNOSY |
|
Root : The roots are long, cylindrical, woody; root bark is 1.0 mm to 4.0 mm thick, outer surface yellowish brown, longitudinally wrinkled. Fracture is tough, fibrous, taste slightly bitter. Microscopically the roor shows tetrarch stele. Transverse section of a mature root shows periderm consisting of 8-10 layers of cork, 2-3 layered phellogen, 6-8 layers of phelloderm and a wide zone of phloem and the central wood. The phloem consists of sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma, a few stone cells traversed by phloem rays.
Stem Bark : The bark occurs in pieces, 6-15 cm long, 3 to 10 cm wide and 5-12 mm thick. Outer surface is ash coloured and rough due to the presence of lenticels. Inner surface is smooth, whitish brown or buff coloured.
Leaves : The leaves are long petioled, thin, entire, trifoliate. The leaf shows a dorsiventral structure with ranunculaceous and cruciferous types of stomata. The petiole shows a single layered epidermis followed by cortex and vascular bundles, traversed by thick-walled medullary rays enclosing a pith in the center.

| DISTRIBUTION |
|
The global distribution of this species is recorded in India, Bangladesh, Myanmar (earlier Burma), Malesia, Indonesia, China and SriLanka. In India, it occurs in Peninsular India, Western India, Gangetic Plains and Eastern India up to Tripura and Manipur covering the states of Uttara Pradesh. , Bihar, West Bengal, Assam. , Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. This species is globally distributed in Indo-Malesia. Wtihin India, it is found throughout, either wild or cultivated.
